How does the uFR e-passport reader – MRTD reading app work?
To use this app users must have an NFC-enabled phone or uFR NFC reader connected to their phone.
The first step is entering the basic information necessary for authorizing the document. It can be done manually by entering the passport number, date of birth, and document expiry date in the provided fields. This can also be done automatically with a phone’s camera which performs OCR of the machine-readable code on the document and reads the required information.
After that, the second step is reading document data via NFC communication.
Document information available through the app: Document code, Issuing State or organization, Name of the document holder, Document number, Nationality, Sex, Date of birth, Date of expiry, and Optional data.
Information on Collection and Use of Users’ personal data
Our software does not automatically collect and/or store personal information and we do not know who are users based on identity from the scanned documents. All data taken from documents is displayed in-app without permanent recording.
Although we do not record any personal information, our app has a REST API option of sending the read data to the user specified server address.
Also, there is an option of sharing data read from passport via built-in sharing feature of the mobile operating system where explicit action from the user is needed and the user selects an external app.
